As a business grows, its software needs change. An upgrade to Pastel Evolution enabled South Africa's largest independent retail buying group to streamline its business processing and reduce administrative time and hassle.
ISER (Pty) Ltd, trading as Expert, is a case in point and the group needed to find a new way to manage its rapidly growing operation.
With a national footprint of owner-managed stores that specialise in appliances, furniture, audio-visual equipment and digital products, ISER procures goods in bulk through a single channel to ensure that prices at Expert stores are competitive in a very dynamic market. But this also means that they were processing between 15 000 and 20 000 invoices a month and had outgrown their existing Brilliant Accounting software.
A brilliant solution
Softline Pastel channel partner, Brilliant Link, was asked to assess ISER’s changing software needs and after evaluating the business case, determined that Pastel’s Evolution software was the perfect answer.
They also developed a custom batch processing system, which allowed ISER to import and validate bulk transactions into Pastel Evolution. Thanks to the highly efficient channel partner, the entire conversion was completed in less than two weeks. ISER financial manager, Rochelle Klopper, says they have been delighted with the result. “Besides the excellent service that we have received from Brilliant Link over the past few years, the Pastel Evolution software system is perfect for our business,” Klopper says. “The support that we have received has been incredible - always willing to customise the software to meet our specific requirements and in turn make our business more efficient.”

Stef Fourie, Brilliant Link managing director says the custom batch system is integrated with Evolution’s debtors and creditors modules, which reduces the processing time. “For us, it is about building a solid relationship with our clients and being able to meet their specific needs. There is very little point in having a great software package such as Pastel Evolution, if you don’t have a competent service provider to complement that package,” he says.

Full functionality
Pastel Evolution divisional director, Mohammed Mosam, says the software was the perfect solution to handle the large transaction volumes while allowing multiple users to access the information at the click of a mouse.
Ease of use and simplicity were always in the forefront of our thinking during development. ISER was also immediately attracted to the product because of its look and feel. Thereafter, the functionality was proven.
Typically, most businesses have different departments with different tasks. The warehouse manager will manage inventory and the shipment thereof while others deal with payroll and HR, CRM and procurement. Usually, these different departments use different software applications to manage their tasks but Pastel Evolution consolidates all this information into a single database, using a single application. In addition to the modules used by ISER, Evolution also offers CRM and Procurement modules and a Business Intelligence Centre which offers managers insight into all aspects of the business from a quick glance to more detailed information.
