Anybody who has visited the Sage Pastel offices in Johannesburg will know Talieb; he is the front-of-house friendly face that welcomes you on arrival.

Talieb's role is more than just a meet and greet, so we spent five minutes getting to know him and his job a little better…

Describe your current job
I am the Operations Manager for Softline Pastel in Johannesburg. I am responsible for the switchboard and reception area, I am also PA to the MD. I love my job; there is never a dull moment and it’s always challenging. I enjoy working with our staff and customers and thrive on dealing with the diverse mix of people every day.
Tell us a bit about your first job
I worked for a paging company. This was long before cell phones took over the world!
You’re obviously a technology guy; which gadget can’t you live without?
My ipod and laptop.
And more about you; when and where were you born?
19th July. I am a Jozi man through and through; I was born and raised in the city.
Which three people (dead or alive) would you invite to dinner and why?
Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and Loyiso Bala. Mother Teresa & Madiba are both great humanitarians and I would value any advice they may give over dinner. I think Loyiso is a wonderful musician.
What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?
Go all the way or go home.
What’s the last good thing you saw on TV?
Jacob’s Cross, it’s a proudly South African production!
And your favourite hobby?
I love reading. My interests are vast so there is always a pile of books and magazines next to my bed. My favourite author is John Grisham but I also enjoy Jonathan Kellerman and Danielle Steel. I try to read every issue of Time Magazine and industry mags, Channel Wise and CRN.
Can you finish the following sentences please…
Before I die, I want to go on pilgrimage to Mecca - a spiritual journey that I believe will make me a better person both mentally and physically.
My greatest hope for the future would be for improved relations between people. A mutual respect for everyone, regardless of race and gender would be a good way to start.
